Medoma is a Swedish (founded and headquartered) virtual ward company that offer patients acute hospital care in their home instead of in the hospital. The care is conducted with a combination of physical visits from medical staff (doctors, nurses and physiotherapists) as well as digital consultations, coordinated through a technological platform monitoring vital parameters, as well as optimizing “care-out-of-home”logistics.
The normal path to being admitted to Medoma as a patient is the following: The patient is transferred, at his/her doctor’s recommendation, from the hospital to their home. Once in their home, Medoma will set-up the necessary medical equipment and surveillance and start the treatment. Medical staff will visit the patient’s home with the, for the specific medical condition, appropriate frequency. Several times a day of daily check-ups, remote registration of vital parameters and digital access to medical staff is also part of the Medoma patient experience. The patient remains admitted to the acute hospital during the care episode, but is being cared for in the home – instead of in the hospital ward.
Yes, as long as you meet the eligibility criteria. These are related to the patients’ diagnosis and medical stability as well as cognitive abilities and ability to perform Activities of Daily Living at an acceptable level. Safety of living conditions are also taken into account (no dangerous animals, etc).We offer the same level of medical service as an ordinary hospital ward. The most common medical conditions we treat include heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and infectious disease.
Yes. Research suggests that caring for patients in the home instead of in a hospital ward in many cases improves medical outcomes and patient satisfaction without sacrificing safety, quality, or access to care.
For the patient it costs the same as the care in a hospital ward. In Sweden this in essence means through the tax system plus the normal patient fee (Swedish: “Patientavgift”).

Medoma is owned by its founders, employees as well as reputable investors for example Bonnier Ventures, Inventure, AB Segulah and the Sven Hagströmer family.
